Welcome to the 2020-21 winter season! We would like to thank you for your continued loyalty to Sunday River and the hotels. As Mother Nature brings us temperatures that allow our top notch snowmaking team to keep the snow guns cranking, we hope to see more of our snowbirds return to the hotel soon.

In this newsletter you will find information about this year’s Rental Partner Program, COVID-19 precautions, what’s new at the hotels, and helpful links to help your family prepare for your upcoming visits to your happy place! COVID-19 Hub
Please visit sundayriver.com/covid for the most up to date information about resort procedures and safety precautions. For specific information about the Grand Summit and Jordan Hotels, visit the Resort Lodging section of the COVID-19 Hub. Important highlights include:

  • Face coverings are required for all guests and team members in all public indoor and outdoor areas at the resort, unless actively skiing downhill or actively eating.
  • Capacities of indoor spaces will be limited based on state guidelines, and guest flow throughout the resort will be adjusted to allow for distancing between parties.
  • All Team Members will undergo health screenings prior to every shift as well as training on COVID protocols. We ask that guests self screen with the questions below.
  • Heightened sanitation practices will be in place throughout every facet of resort operations.
  • The state of Maine sets guidelines for lodging guests through their Keep Maine Healthy Plan, including requirements for COVID tests or quarantines for guests from select states.

The Slopes are Open!

Sunday River opened for the season on November 23 with ten top to bottom trails and two lifts! Welcome to winter! While terrain is limited, Sunday River will initially open to pass holders and ticket packs only. As Sunday River is able to expand terrain offerings we plan to add access for day tickets starting on December 14. Early season information regarding conditions and skier services will be available on the Mountain Report.

Welcome to Sunday River’s New Leadership Team Members!

Brian Heon: General Manager

On May 1, Sunday River hired Brian Heon as General Manager. In this role, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the resort.
Heon brings extensive experience in resort operations, with past positions at Disney, American Skiing Company, and Peak Resorts, where he most recently served as the General Manager of Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire. He is also the Co-Chair of the National Tramway Standards Board, and is a representative of the American National Standards Institute.
Dana Bullen, who has been with Sunday River since 2004, will continue his role as Resort President, focusing on the Maine ski area’s operational and financial performance, real estate development, and long-term growth strategies.
“Our team is thrilled to welcome Brian and his family to our community. With his skills and diverse background, Brian will certainly be an asset to Sunday River,” says Bullen.

Meredith Harrop: Vice President of Lodging and Jordan Hotel General Manager

On November 16, Sunday River hired Meredith Harrop as the Vice President of Lodging and Jordan Hotel General Manager.
Meredith’s career has been built around her passion for the outdoors and guest service. She has worked at Sunday River as a leader in the SnowSports School since 2001. During our off-season, she held the Business Director position at a luxury yacht charter company in Newport, Rhode Island from 2002 until 2019.
Meredith is thrilled to be joining our lodging team at your hotels. She looks forward to meeting you, seeing you at the hotels and getting to know you.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry!

There are a few new and excitingly yummy food and beverage options at your hotels this winter. Reservations can be booked on the Sunday River website, OpenTable, or by calling.

Northern LightsBreakfast and Lunch—A

favorite for breakfast and lunch, Northern Lights Cafe will be offering takeout options at the Jordan Hotel. New for this winter, Coffee Hound Coffee Bar will be serving up gourmet drinks. Stop in to warm up with ski-in/ski-out access this winter!

SlidersLunch and Dinner— Sliders will again be offering slopeside lunch and dinner. Sliders Express will offer online ordering and to-go pick up for lunch. Online room delivery, to go, and pre-made ready to heat meals will be available for dinner. Reservations are strongly recommended. Projected opening late December.

Grand AveBreakfast and Lunch—Grand Ave offers a full breakfast buffet to enjoy before you hit the slopes, and delicious soup options for lunch time. To go options also available. Reservations are strongly recommended. Projected opening late December.

CampBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner – Camp will be open for three meals a day this winter. Online room delivery, to go, and pre-made ready-to-heat meals will be available for dinner. Reservations are strongly recommended. Open Now!

The Last Run Room—Lunch and Après Ski— Harding Lee Smith, the chef behind The Mountain Room and The Rooms in Portland, Maine, is opening the Last Run Room in the slopeside Grand Summit Hotel. Featuring a menu for lunch and apres-ski, this new restaurant will be a must-try for winter 2020-21. Indoor seating, as well as outdoor igloos, will be available. Projected opening January 2021.

Gear Up for the Great Outdoors

Sunday River Sports will once again have satellite shops in both the Grand Summit and the Jordan Hotels. In the Jordan Hotel, the shop has moved to a new location, on the first floor next to Ski Check. Visit Sunday River Sports to gear up for a great day on the slopes! Opening in both hotels in late December.

Relax, Unwind, Rejuvenate
The Jordan Spa will open for the season on December 23. We will be offering a variety of services again this season and look forward to welcoming you in for a refreshing experience!

Contactless Ticket Kiosk

Sunday River’s new RFID ticketing system will allow contactless ticket pick up. Order your lift tickets online at shop.sundayriver.com and pick them up at a contactless ticket kiosk. Each hotel will have a kiosk on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Keep your RFID card and you’ll be able to reload it season after season and never have to visit a lift ticket line again!

Owner Services Websites
Your owner services team will also continue to place updates on your owner sites. Please make sure you are registered at either summitowners.net or jordanowners.net. Your owner sites are where you will find FAQ for this winter, Space Available request link and availability, and yearly calendars and more. If you have questions or need help registering, contact ownerservices@sundayriver.com.

Rental Partner Program

We are pleased to offer the Rental Partner Program again this season. We will be mailing out all Rental Partner Program cards this year. If you do not want a card, please email ownerservices@sundayriver.com.

Discounted Dining Card—This year, dining cards will only be available to owners and seasons passholders. You can load your RPPC in increments of $100. You pay $80, but get $100! This card can be used for food and beverage purchases at Sunday River owned outlets such as Sliders, Camp, Grand Ave, Northern Lights, the Foggy Goggle, Base lodge Cafeterias, and more! Just bring your RPPC to guest services to be loaded as often as you’d like!

Tune Shop Discount at South Ridge Lodge—Rental Partners will receive a $25 ski or snowboard tune at the Tune Shop in South Ridge Base Lodge only. This cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. Valid until 12/24/20. Please make sure you have your Rental Partner Program Card with you to receive this owner benefit.

Discounted SnowSports School Adult Lesson—Owners should use the discount code 2021srrentalpartner to receive $10 off Adult (ages 13+) 90 Minute clinics. Lessons will be available from December 11 to March 28. These are not for first time skiers/snowboarders. Owners should visit https://shop.sundayriver.com and use their discount code to book their lesson!

Free Jordan Spa Add-On Enhancement—Owners will receive a free add-on with their service. The add-on may be chosen from the following enhancements:

  • Hot Stones
  • Aromatherapy
  • Hand or Foot Massage

Just let the receptionist know at the time of your booking what enhancement you would like!

Extended Covid-19 Space Available Services

Dear owners,

We have elected to continue the extended Covid-19 Space Available Services.

These protocols, originally posted on June 10th, give you the opportunity to stay for an extended time frame, up to 7 days, on Space Available. You are able to request either the Summit hotel or the Jordan hotel, and may stay in a unit equivalent to, or smaller than, what you own.

Requirements for requesting Space Available

  1. You must put your Space A request in at least 5 days in advance, to allow our limited team time to prep a room for you.
  2. Your dues must be paid in full in order to make use of this privilege.
  3. In order to request Space Available you must use this link: https://sundayriver.wufoo.com/forms/owners-request-form/

We will not be allowing walk-ins or any booking for Space A within the 5 day time frame. At this time, if you do make a Space A reservation and cancel within 72 hours you will be charged the set-up fee, so please plan accordingly.

Notice of Open Positions on the Board of Directors

Please be aware, there will be one (1) open position on the Executive Board of the Jordan HOA, as of the annual meeting in October, 2020.   These are elected positions and are open to all Jordan Hotel homeowners in good standing.

The term of Bill Cobb, is expiring.  Bill has expressed interest in running for re-election.

If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors, please submit a brief resume to Jenny Gray at The Jordan Hotel via email at ownerservices@sundayriver.com with a copy to the Board’s secretary, Kristine Conti, kmconti@comcast.net.  Resumes need to be received by Friday, August 28th, 2020 in order to be processed for the annual meeting in October.

Responsibilities of board members include attendance at the annual meeting in October and the annual budget meeting held in the spring.  The Board also meets several times during the calendar year and conference calls are scheduled intermittently to attend to any outstanding business. Officers are elected immediately following the annual meeting in October.

 

Resort Safety Practices – Face Coverings Required

Sunday River has made changes to our resort operations this summer to support the national effort in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and to follow state guidelines, and are working to incorporate social distancing and other safety measures into our plans for next winter.

Resort-Wide Policies & Protocols

These policies will change as state and federal guidance is updated.  

  • All staff will undergo health screenings prior to every shift.
  • Sneeze guards will be placed at point-of-sale locations.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the resort.
  • Guests are required to bring and use face coverings while in public spaces indoors, and outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • We will accept all forms of payment, but encourages guests to make purchases online prior to arrival when possible and use cashless forms of payment while on-resort.
  • Those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, such as a fever or cough, are asked not to visit the resort.

Space Available Guidelines

Thank you for being loyal owners and guests of Sunday River.
With the changes that have happened over the past few months due to the impact of COVID-19 Sunday River wants to provide owners with expanded space available services.
We will be extending your Space Available privileges (Space A) up to a 7 day stay at the Grand Summit or Jordan Hotel. These new guidelines will begin July 1st 2020. You must request your Space A stay 5 days in advance by using the Space Available Request link on the Owner Services Page, summitowners.net page, or jordanowners.net page. We will not be allowing walk-ins or any booking for Space A within the 5 day time frame. At this time, if you do make a Space A reservation and cancel inside of 72 hours you will be charged the set-up fee, so please plan accordingly.
These expanded Space Available guidelines are temporary and in response to the impact of COVID19 on Sunday River’s business levels and will revert to our usual rules and regulations on September 1st 2020. We will review the end date in August and let you know if we will extend it based on the current situation with COVID-19.
Per usual, only owners in good standing will be able to take advantage of this service, so please make sure your dues are paid in full before submitting your request. You can reach out to kmyers@sundayriver.com to make these payments.

Message from your Board of Directors

We want to provide an update to the Jordan owners as to the operating status of the Jordan Hotel. Maine’s Governor, Janet Mills, issued an Executive Order on April 3rd which suspended lodging operations including hotels. The Executive order further mandates that all travelers coming to the State of Maine self-quarantine for 14 days and abide by Maine’s Stay Healthy at Home Order. These actions will protect the health and safety of everyone. The Jordan HOA’s attorney has reviewed the Governor’s Executive Order and general deeded property laws. He has determined there is not express permission to close the Jordan to owners. However, the Board of Directors and Jordan’s management team strongly discourage owners from using their timeshare week(s) for leisure purposes, as it risks the spread of Covid-19 to staff and subsequent users of the units, and overburdens the minimal staff still at the property. The Jordan is deemed a non-essential business, and therefore the Management Company is not required to provide services during the period of this Order, which is currently April 30th but could be extended. The Crown Club, Pool, Health Club & Spa, Game Room, Restaurants, and SR Sports Shop are closed. Housekeeping is suspended. If owners are on property during their week, they will be charged the normal set-up fee and at the end of their stay a $150 deep cleaning fee.

These are challenging and unpredictable times. The decisions being made may be an inconvenience and viewed as unpopular. We need to do all we can to slow the spread of this deadly virus and prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
